Typically, if you're buying a Surface Laptop 3, the Core i5 model comes with 8GB RAM and then if you want more RAM, you'll have to get a Core i7. This is pretty standard for Surface products, and it's also standard for Microsoft to introduce a Core i5/16GB model for businesses that are demanding it.
That's exactly what's happening with the Surface Laptop 3. You can now get a Surface Laptop 3 with a Core i5-1035G7, 16GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD in both the 13.5- and 15-inch flavors. It's unclear if the product is actually shipping yet, as it's not shown on the Microsoft Store and at least one of Microsoft's Surface for Business retailers shows it as not in stock, but other retailers seem to allow you to buy it now.
Naturally, the Surface Laptop 3 15-inch consumer model is still shipping with AMD Ryzen processors, and there is indeed a model with a Ryzen 5 and 16GB RAM. Still, many reviewers, including us, recommend the Surface Laptop 3 for Business on account of Intel's Ice Lake processors being superior. And being that Microsoft is one of few OEMs using the Core i5-1035G7 (instead of G1 or G4), you'll get top-of-the-line Iris Plus Graphics, the same as in the Core i7 model.
It seems that the pricing on the new model will be $1,449.99 for the 13.5-inch variant and $1,549.99 for the 15-inch flavor. Here are the links for the new Surface Laptop 3 model on Connection, although the 13.5-inch models are currently listed as out of stock:
- Platinum 13.5-inch
- Black 13.5-inch
- Cobalt Blue 13.5-inch
- Sandstone 13.5-inch
- Platinum 15-inch
- Black 15-inch
There are also listings on Insight, with varying pricing. They're all in-stock.
As usual, you don't actually have to be a business to buy a Surface Laptop 3 for Business. Anyone can grab one from the Microsoft Store, although as noted above, this particular configuration is only being offered by third-party retailers for now.
