Microsoft is releasing new firmware updates for both the Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4 today, some of its oldest supported devices in the lineup. Indeed, the Pro 3 came out almost four and a half years ago, so it's certainly notable that it's still receiving updates.
Here's what's new for the Surface Pro 3:
Windows Update History Name |
Device Manager Name |
---|---|
Surface – Firmware – 3.11.2550.0 |
Surface UEFI – Firmware
|
Surface – Firmware – 38.14.80.0 |
Surface Embedded Controller Firmware – Firmware
|
Surface – System – 2.0.1350.0 |
Surface Integration – System devices
|
According to Microsoft's value indicator chart, these updates improve security with no effect on other categories like reliability, battery life, connectivity, compatibility, and performance.
The Surface Pro 4 got a few more updates than that, also improving security and battery stability.

Microsoft did not provide a value indicator chart for the Surface Pro 4 updates, but it should be about the same as the one for the Surface Pro 3.
If you want to download the Surface Pro 3 firmware and drivers bundle, you can find it here. The bundle for the Surface Pro 4 can be found here. Of course, you can always just wait for them to be installed automatically with Windows Update.
