Another market research analyst has predicted a Dell partnership with AMD. Doug Freedman of American Technology Research believes the time frame for an announcement could be as soon as March of this year.
The partnership could begin with laptop computers, as Dell outsources more research and development, testing, and production tasks in its notebook computer departments than with its desktop or server product lines. Afterwards, Dell would expand AMD processors to its server and desktop lines, in that order.
Rumors have gained momentum in recent weeks after Dell chairman Michael Dell stated the company would not rule out usage of AMD processors in its computers. What sets Freedman's prediction apart is the close time frame and the targeting of notebook computers, an area where Intel still holds a very commanding lead.
