As part of Midway's plan to double its Mortal Kombat output, another experiment with an action-adventure game in the Kombat universe is due out next fall. Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, following in the footsteps of the ill-fated Mortal Kombat Mythologies and Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, is a new side-scrolling action game based on Midway's famous fighting series.
On its way to PlayStation 2 and Xbox, Shaolin Monks mixes familiar fighting elements from recent Mortal Kombat games with larger continuous worlds, more interactive environments (along the lines of the new "pit" fatality variations in Mortal Kombat: Deception), and puzzles to solve in between hand-to-hand fights. Two players can work through the campaign simultaneously in a cooperative multiplayer mode.
