Google's Motorola division has been in the news quite a bit lately. In late June it introduced a new logo and last week it ran an ad in many US newspapers that offered a teaser for its upcoming Moto X smartphone.
That device is not expected to be formally introduced for a while yet, but next week, Motorola has something else up its sleeve that it apparently wants to reveal to a select group of journalists. CNET reports that famed tech reporter Leo Laporte stated on his "This Week in Google" show that he had received an invite to come to Google's campus for this event.
Laporte said that about 50 journalists were asked to come to the campus in two groups, with one coming on Wednesday, July 10th and the other group on Thursday, July 11th. While Laporte speculated at the time that this could be the first reveal of the Moto X, CNET has since confirmed that this event is about something else entirely.
The question is what does Motorola and Google have on their agenda next week that is so special that it is only asking a few reporters to experience it for themselves? The Evleaks Twitter feed did reveal an image of what it claims to be the Motorola Droid MAXX for Verizon late on Friday but that would seem to be small potatoes for a press event to be held on Google's campus. Hopefully we will learn more later this week.
