Motorola made quite a splash when it announced that it was reviving the old razr name by bringing back the flip phone, but now with a foldable screen. So much so, that the company had to push back the release date, initially planned for January, due to overwhelming demand for the new phone. Earlier this month, the company said it would be making the phone available on February 6, but it seems like that delay may not have been enough.
As spotted by GSMArena, product listings for the upcoming razr are now showing a delivery date of February 18, and that's on Motorola's website as well as Verizon's, the exclusive carrier for the phone in the United States.
That's a two-week delay, which also pushes the delivery date past the expected announcement of Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip, which should happen during the Unpacked event on February 11. The Galaxy Z Flip is very similar in concept to the razr, and according to rumors, it will pack a significantly faster chipset at a similar price, which would make it a significant threat to Motorola's revived icon.
To be clear, though, Motorola hasn't publicly announced a delay for razr deliveries, so this could be a new shipping date exclusively for new orders, while those that have already bought the phone could still get it on February 6. We've reached out to Motorola for clarification on this and will update the article with any new information as it comes.
Update: Motorola has confirmed that the new shipping date is a result of high demand and that it only applies to new orders. If you ordered prior to the change, you should still get it on February 6.
