MS withdraws SharePoint 2001 servicepack 2

SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 2 (SP2) is not available for download at this time. Please check back soon for further availability information.

On January 13, 2003, Microsoft released Service Pack 2 (SP2) for SharePoint Portal Server 2001. Soon afterward, testing revealed a problem in the service pack. Microsoft immediately discontinued service pack downloads while presently completing required updates to SP2, which will be made available soon. In the interim, Microsoft wants to provide information for those who have downloaded and installed SP2.

The SP2 issue concerns indexing, by which the content on the server is made searchable. In some cases, the indexing process is incomplete, preventing portions of the content from being searchable.

Microsoft recommends that customers who have downloaded and installed SharePoint Portal Server SP2 avoid performing indexing (also known as crawling) until the updated version of SP2 is made available. Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) is also available to provide free assistance to customers affected by the indexing issue. To contact PSS, visit the Microsoft support Web site (again, support calls related to this issue are free).
