Either Microsoft is feeling rather funny on the day it releases MSN Wave 10 or their premier web email service has been hacked. Users currently signing into Hotmail at the moment are greeted with the strangest message.
"PAID USER A - contact terryr for questions
My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this lBurger?
"Now thats a fire!"
"Ice cream!"
For over a thousand years Roman conquerors returning from the wars enjoyed the honor of triumph, a tumultuous parade. The conquerors rode in a trimphal chariot, the dazed prisoners walking in chains before him.Pizza?
Sometimes his children robed in white stoodwith him in the chariot or rode the trace horses. A slave stood behind the conqueror holding a golden crown and whispering in his ear a warning: that all glory is fleeting.Burrito? "
This seems to be a placeholder than hasn't been removed in the upgrade. terryr would be terryr@microsoft.com and is probably a little red faced at the moment. MSN Wave 10 is the latest improvements and upgrades for MSN Hotmail that went out to customers today. The improvements include a new attachments picture option, Sender ID enabled, better MSN Messenger integration and contact cards. Sign into MSN Hotmail now to see the goof and check out the new features!
Update: Seems this is only affecting paid MSN subscribers.
Microsoft have responded to the news:
"This afternoon, some MSN subscribers signing in to Hotmail may have encountered a test page that was inadvertently posted to the service. MSN has removed the page and Hotmail is functioning as usual. Anyone who encountered the page could click "continue" to go directly to their Hotmail inbox. The text on the test page was irreverent and was not meant for posting. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers."
