Computer giant Dell and the music service Napster stated today that they would partner together to bring a new digital music download service to U.S. college campuses.
The deal will call on Dell to provide its PowerEdge 1855 blade servers to a campus for Napster's digital music service. Colleges and universities will use the Dell servers to store music from Napster's song library in what will basically be a local napster network for students.
Ther companies have stated that the University of Washington will be their first customer, and that the service will be offered to students and faculty of the school beginning this fall. Dell will install 10 of its PowerEdge blade servers as part of the service.
Napster is planning on offering students and faculty a discounted rate instead of paying the usual Napster fee.
