Last week during NeowINDEX TX09, we had the opportunity to visit the HP campus in Houston, Texas. While we were there we were invited to sit in with some of the people from the blades server group, and participate in an open discussion about some of HP's blade server technologies.
After attending the HP Tech Day and G6 Web Jam a couple of weeks ago, my interest in HP blade servers had already been piqued. However, when we got a detailed look at the 490 blades that use SSD's, are dual CPU capable, and can hold up to 18 DIMM's, and include 2 10GB NIC's, and then discussed the new HP BladeSystem Matrix, dreams of massive processing capabilities crammed into a standard rack began to cross my neural pathways, and yes, I drooled.
The next thing we discussed is HP's BladeSystem Onboard Administrator, a plugin for HP Systems Insight Manager that provides key system functionality information and allows an administrator to perform some very useful tasks from remote. We got a nice demo of some of the capabilities of the system in conjunction with the admin panel that is located in the server racks, which you'll see in the video.
That said, and without further ado, here is the session in it's entirety. I apologize in advance for the low audio in some segments, but it's not too terribly awful. Enjoy!
