A lot of problems are brewing for Netflix ever since it reported that it has lost around 200,000 subscribers this year, for the first time ever. This is why the company wants to diversify its plans beyond its core streaming business. We already know that the company is trying its luck with gaming. As per a new report by Deadline, Netflix is also exploring the idea of live streaming content.
Netflix has confirmed that it is in the early stages of development for live streams for unscripted shows and stand-up specials. The streaming company can definitely add more things to watch live, particularly sports and reality TV shows.
Shows like ABC's American Idol and Dancing with the Stars, which are moving to Disney+, are often aired live. Netflix can open up the potential to craft its own network of such shows that will be live streamed.
Comedy shows could be a great starting point for Netflix to introduce live streaming as it already has a bunch of shows with well-known comedians. The company has also tried different release patterns for its unscripted series such as The Circle and Love Is Blind, and live streaming could make things a little bit intriguing.
For starters, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+. Hulu and a lot of streaming services provide support for live streaming. Although, don't expect an official announcement soon as all the live streaming plans are still in preliminary stages.
