Acer promoted its Windows 8-powered Aspire S7 Ultrabook back in October with an odd TV ad campaign that featured Megan Fox and dolphins. This week, the company launched a new TV ad campaign for its Windows 8 products that ties into what's expected to be one of the biggest movies of 2013, Star Trek Into Darkness.
Acer has posted two TV ads on YouTube, both of which shows scenes of Star Trek Into Darkness cut with scenes of its Aspire S7 and Aspire V5 Touch notebooks and the Iconia W510 tablet. The ads both end with a URL that directs viewers to an Acer website that have links to purchase the three Windows 8 products along with some Star Trek Into Darkness-Acer PC wallpapers.
Of course, a tie-in for the latest entry in the sci-fi franchise that's been around for nearly 50 years would seem to be a no-brainer for a PC company. However, the ads and the websites themselves fall a little flat when it comes to both promoting the movie and showing off Acer's Windows 8 PCs.
We actually prefer a recent TV commercial for the upcoming Star Trek console-PC game that serves as a prequel to the movie. The commercial has the original Captain Kirk, William Shatner, fighting off one of his toughest foes, the Gorn, with hilarious results.
