Microsoft has released a wave of driver updates for its Surface Book and Surface Pro 4, but so far, it appears that availability is limited to those devices enrolled on the Windows Insider Fast ring.
Windows Central spotted seven updates heading to their devices, all of which are related to the cameras, and Windows Hello biometric authentication:
- Intel driver update for Intel(R) Imaging Signal Processor 2500
- Microsoft driver update for Surface Camera Windows Hello
- Intel Corporation driver update for Microsoft Camera Front
- Intel driver update for Intel(R) AVStream Camera 2500
- Intel Corporation driver update for Microsoft IR Camera Front
- Intel Corporation driver update for Microsoft Camera Rear
- Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) Control Logic
Along with performance and reliability improvements when logging in to the devices with Windows Hello facial recognition, the updates have also introduced a minor but noticeable change. When Windows Hello is activated, the privacy light - to the right of the camera - now illuminates; previously, only the light for the infrared camera would come on when Hello was in use.
The updates are rolling out now via Windows Update for the Surface Book and Pro 4 - but don't forget, they're only available for Fast ring users for now.
