Smart cars are nothing new, with many platforms like Android Auto and Apple's CarPlay already enabling smart features while driving in a range of different cars. However, Google and Fiat wanted to take those smarts beyond the road, and so the companies today introduced the Fiat 500 Family Hey Google, a lineup of cars with out-of-the-box integration with the Google Assistant.
The way it works is that the new cars are compatible with a new My Fiat Action for Google Assistant, which integrates the Mopar Connect system in Fiat's cars with the platform. This way, users can ask any of their Assistant-enabled devices, like the Nest Hub or a smartphone, to check things like the fuel level of their car, lock the doors, ask how far away the car is, and so on. To do it, users can just say "Hey Google, ask my Fiat" followed by the request.
The Hey Google edition of the Fiat 500 family is based on the start Fiat 500 lineup introduced earlier this year, specifically the Connect trim. That means it also features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, so you can still have access to smart features while driving.
What's most striking about this edition of the Fiat 500 lineup are the Google-themed visual elements, though. The car doors have dotted patterns with the Google colors used here and there, as do the car seats. There's also a "Hey Google" badge on the outside of the car, and a small "Hey Google" tag stitched on the side of the front seats.
The Fiat 500 Family Hey Google lineup, including the Fiat 500, 500X, and 500L, will launch soon in 10 European countries - Italy, the U.K., France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Poland. You can learn more about the Hey Google family on Fiat's website.
