EA Sports revealed today to IGN that a new game is being entered into the Fight Night franchise, called Fight Night Champion, scheduled for release sometime next year.
When the infamous Fight Night Round 3 trailer was released at E3 2005, the boxing-based fighting game hit all new heights of popularity; with the fourth game in the series continuing the popularity of the franchise, selling well over 2 million copies on PS3 and 360. It seems EA is keen to keep up the momentum, announcing a new game entitled 'Fight Night Champions', it is set to try and put the player in the shoes of a boxing world champion.
Even though it doesn't have 'Round 5' in the title, developer EA Canada has assured us that the game is not an expansion pack to the last game, Fight Night Round 4, but a full fledged sequel; calling it the "most realistic" fighting game in the series. With a promised online mode that is to included features that are brand new to the franchise, as well as featuring a far more innovative single player experience. An experience that attempts to put the player into the game, like no other fighter has ever done before it.
Described by the developer as a game that will "break the mold" to what is expected from the fighting genre and will feature between 60-65 unique fighters. The game will also feature a new mechanic called "full spectrum punch control" that will give the player a whole new way to move combatants around the ring and throw punches.
It is described as the most realistic control scheme ever seen in a fighting game, they also claim that it will be "the most user friendly title in the franchises history". No details were given about any new gameplay modes that will be in the game, but it was teased to be something never done by EA Sports before.
EA Canada have stated that we will see more information about the game later this year and that the game will release as a stand alone disc, sometime in 2011.
