New ground being broke over the next Gears of War game isn't breaking news. The acquiring of the franchise by Microsoft was made public over a year ago when Black Tusk Studios, one component of Microsoft Game Studios, was tasked with creating the next game in the series. Then rumors began spreading all over the Internet when Xbox head honcho Phil Spencer refused to answer questions over the possibility of a Marcus Fenix Collection that may be in the works for the Xbox One.
The rumors appear to be nothing more than rumors, because as of this morning, series producer Rod Fergusson has outright denied the existence of a "Marcus Fenix Collection" through Twitter:
A remastered Gears of War would have likely put the entire franchise on the Xbox One, much like Halo's Master Chief Collection. Unfortunately, the denial of the Marcus Fenix Collection pretty much kills of those hopes and dream. If you want to grasp at straws, Fergusson does explicitly say "no Marcus Fenix Collection" is in the works - perhaps that's not what they're calling a Gears port to Xbox One? Just don't get your hopes up.
The great news is that the next Gears of War game will be ready for revealing in June at the 2015 E3 event in LA. There's also the use of the word "projects" within Fergusson's tweet. If that's not a typo, we could be in for multiple Gears announcements.
