Nintendo fans, prepare to take the day off. Plans have been announced to hold a special internet conference on Friday, in order to cover news that wasn't released at their previous conference. Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's CEO, will be beamed to bedrooms everywhere in a pre-recorded message at 8pm Japan time.
But before you start phoning your boss and preparing your best fake cough, it's probably worth thinking about how low-key the whole announcement is. An internet conference isn't exactly the place to go for hard hitting news, and it doesn't look like Nintendo's putting pressure on it either. The 3DS will be the main focus of the event and Nintendo has mentioned that the November firmware update and wireless support for Mario Kart 7 are going to be main topics.
This will be an event for the dedicated, or so it seems. A few questions spring to mind though. For example, if the presentation is being streamed live, why has it been pre-recorded? And why has the time and effort been put into a live streaming presentation for news that would most likely be suited for a press release? Nintendo might have a surprise up their sleeves, but the only way to be sure is to follow along when the video hits the net.
