Nintendo announces Dragalia Lost, a new mobile role-playing game

Nintendo's offerings in the mobile gaming market have expanded quite significantly in recent years, with titles such as Super Mario Run, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp and the yet unreleased Mario Kart Tour, slated for the current fiscal year, but it looks as if the company is looking to bolster its smartphone offerings even further.

In its most recent financial briefing, where it also reported a pretty major bump in operating profits, the Japanese company announced its latest entry in smartphone games, a new role-playing game called Dragalia Lost. The game was jointly developed with Japan-based Cygames and will be operated by both companies. Its official website is live here (in Japanese). According to GoNintendo, the game will be free-to-play and interested users can pre-register to play now, and players with be rewarded with additional Dragon Crystals depending on the number of pre-registered users, up to a maximum of 1,500 Dragon Crystals.

Whereas previous mobile games by Nintendo have been based on its existing franchises, Dragalia Lost seems to be an entirely new offering, which highlights the company's continued focus in the smartphone gaming industry. As a result of the partnership with Cygames, Nintendo will obtain 5% of its stocks.

The game is planned for release in the summer of this year in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. Other regions will receive the game sometime after that.
