Nintendo DS stomps competition
Nintendo announced yesterday that once again the Nintendo DS has destroyed all competition.
Just an amazing two days after the launch of the Nintendo DS (June 11) the handheld unit had already sold more than 136,500 units. To compare, the DS Lite launch is out pacing the 2003 launch of Nintendo's own Game Boy Advance SP by over 12%.
The new Super Mario Bros. DS game, which we all knew would be popular, is performing quite well. During the reporting period, the game was being sold once every four seconds. It also became the #1 best selling game of May, even though it was only on sale for 13 days of the month. Brain Age: Train Your Brain In Minutes A Day was also performing quite well, with sales tripling over the week the DS Lite launched. Not to be outdone during that week, the new Super Mario Bros. game had sales double over the same period.
So for the month of May, New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Age: Train Your Brain In Minutes A Day were the #1 and #3 best selling games. And with Father's Day coming up, people are scooping these two titles up along with the new DS Lite. I hope all the Dad's out there enjoy them!
