It's been a little over a month since we saw the debut of Nintendo's next console, Switch. While the hybrid handheld console is a unique offering compared to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Nintendo still hasn't offered a lot of details when it comes to the technology behind the console or the titles that will be available. As we wait for Nintendo to reveal more information about the Switch, the company has chimed in on the significance of the console's name.
According to the folks at Nintendo Everything who spotted the Q&A session found in Japan's Nintendo Dream magazine, the company stated that the meaning was two-fold. The first reason is the most obvious - the console can "switch" from being played on a TV to a portable unit seamlessly. The second is the more intriguing response in which Nintendo states it was "embodying the idea of being a ‘switch’ that will flip, and change the way people experience entertainment in their daily lives.”
While the initial excitement for the console seems high, that energy doesn't always necessarily translate into sales. The Nintendo Switch will arrive in March 2017 with Nintendo holding an event in January to announce the price and reveal more details.
