Nokia 1 Plus is HMD's first phone to be updated to Android 10 Go

HMD Global has been on a roll with the release of the Android 10 update for its lineup of Nokia smartphones. However, all of the phones that have received the update so far are running the full-featured, and more resource-intensive, version of Android. Today, the Nokia 1 Plus becomes the company's first phone to receive Android 10 Go as an update, after launching with Android Pie early last year. The company already had one phone with Android 10 Go, the Nokia 1.3, but that version was already pre-installed on the device.

HMD says the update brings "a lot of new features" for the Nokia 1 Plus, but it doesn't specify what features. Google detailed some of the changes in the Go edition of Android 10 last year, such as faster app launch times and data encryption for better security. Recently, Google also introduced the Camera Go app, a lightweight camera app that debuted on the Nokia 1.3. It's possible that it's also included in this update.

Just like regular releases of Android 10 on Nokia smartphones, this one comes in waves, and the initial wave includes 19 countries:

As usual, 10% of devices in these markets can expect the update today, and by May 2 it should be available to 50% users. On May 4, everyone in these regions should have the update.

According to HMD's roadmap from March, the Nokia 1 Plus is actually part of the next batch of devices to get the update, after the series of phones that got the update over the past few weeks. However, the Nokia 3.1 Plus was supposed to be part of that previous batch, and it has yet to receive Android 10. It remains to be seen how much longer users will have to wait for the update on that particular device.
