Last month, HMD Global announced the Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus mid-range smartphones at an event held in India. The latter went on sale within a few weeks, while the pricing and availability of the 5.1 Plus weren't revealed until now.
The Finnish startup has finally disclosed that the smartphone will be priced at a very competitive price of ₹10,999 ($151) in India and will be sold exclusively through Flipkart from October 1. Airtel prepaid users can also avail an additional cashback of ₹1,800 and 240GB bonus data on ₹199, ₹249, and ₹448 recharges. With many Chinese brands such as Oppo's Realme, Huawei's Honor and Xiaomi selling high-value devices in this price bracket, it is refreshing to see that HMD has priced the Nokia 5.1 Plus wisely.
As a reminder, the hardware specifications of the Indian variant of the smartphone are as follows:
- 5.8-inch HD+ IPS LCD screen with cutout
- MediaTek Helio P60 processor
- 3GB of RAM
- 32GB of storage
- Dual rear camera combining 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel shooters
- 8-megapixel front-facing camera
- 3060 mAh battery
The device is part of the Android One program and is slated to receive the Android Pie update in the coming months. OS and security updates are HMD Global's key differentiators and the company hopes to keep delivering on its promise of upgrading its entire current portfolio to the latest version of Android in the near future.
