Nokia and T-Mobile announce N-Gage partnership

T-Mobile will co-develop innovative new mobile services for the N-Gage game deck with Nokia.

Nokia and T-Mobile have announced that they will co-develop innovative mobile services and games for the N-Gage game deck. T-Mobile intends to make the games and integrated games services available globally via its mobile network, and eventually plans to offer the platform to other operators in the industry.

"This partnership with Nokia emphasizes both T-Mobile's commitment to significantly growing the mobile data market with pioneering partnerships and a firm belief that gaming and entertainment will be key drivers to mass market usage of mobile date," said Nikesh Arora, CMO of T-Mobile International. "Mobile gaming represents the next step in the evolution of the games industry, by adding interactivity and mobility to traditional gaming options."

"Working with a leading mobile operator like T-Mobile means that we can offer N-Gage consumers a total package of both exciting, innovative games as well as integrated mobile game services," said Ilkka Raiskinen, senior vice president of Nokia's entertainment and media business unit. "Gamers will be able to take advantage of the unique capabilities that the Nokia N-Gage offers, including multiplayer games over GPRS and mobile game services like downloading game content or uploading high scores and screenshots."

T-Mobile's intent is to be the first network operator to deploy N-Gage games with online functionality commercially in both Europe and in the US market.
