Slowly, but surely, Android Pie is making its way to more and more devices, with OnePlus, Essential, and HMD Global being the most notable examples of timely updates to the latest version of Android. Now, the exclusive licensee of the Nokia brand on smartphones is giving even more users a slice of Pie, as it has begun rolling out the update to the Nokia 7.1 announced last month.
Despite being launched with Android 8.1 Oreo, HMD said right away that the update to Android Pie would be available very soon, so it's nice to see the company delivering on that promise. The Nokia 7.1 follows the footsteps of the Nokia 7 Plus, which was the firm's first phone to receive the update, and the 6.1 and 6.1 Plus, both of which started being updated last month.
Android Pie comes with some design changes across the OS, a new gesture-based navigation interface, and a new digital wellbeing dashboard to help you manage your phone time. HMD also said that the Nokia 8 and 8 Sirocco would receive the update sometime in November, but with the month coming to a close in a matter of days, it seems unlikely that the company will be able to maintain that promise.
If you bought the 'affordable flagship', now might be a good time to check for updates. Be aware, however, that HMD employs a phased rollout for major releases, so you may not be among the first to get it.
