Back in February, Google took the opportunity to combine Wallet and Android Pay into a single app, Google Pay, in order to unify the payment experience for users. More recently, the company's Tez payment service, originally launched in India last year, underwent its own rebranding to also fall in line under the Google Pay banner.
Now, Finnish-headquartered Nordea Bank has thrown its support behind the payment platform, bringing the service to its millions of customers spanning 19 countries in Northern Europe. Joining the ranks of Edenred, Jyske Bank, Revolut, and others, Nordea's First Card and all of its consumer cards are now compatible with Google Pay.
With respect to the announcement, Erik Zingmark, Head of Transaction Banking at Nordea said:
"As the frontrunner of the digital transformation of banking, it’s important to offer a complete range of digital payment solutions to all customers. No other Nordic bank can match our broad range of digital payment solutions on all Nordic markets."
The development will enable Nordea customers to make payments at contactless payment terminals without having to carry a wallet as well as within apps and online shops. Those interested in getting started can launch the Google Pay app and follow the instructions to add their cards.
