According to a statement from Samsung's Turkish vice president Tansu Yegen, Android 7.0 Nougat, which was released almost six months ago, will arrive on the Galaxy S6 range of handsets before the end of February. Yegen revealed the dates almost a week ago on February 8 via Twitter, which can be seen below.
The above tweet roughly translates to:
This account is usually don't answer questions about Samsung but very intense from below you may find answers to questions.
The image included with the tweet then shows a graph with the following release date information, translated via XDA forums:
- Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will arrive at the end of 2nd week of February.
- By the end of the 3rd week of February, Galaxy S6 will come to Galaxy S6 edge + and Galaxy Note 5.
- Galaxy S6 edge will arrive at the end of the fourth week of February.
- Galaxy S series in May and finally Galaxy J series in July
True to its word, Nougat for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge has already started rolling out in Turkey, and SamMobile has even captured the firmware files for both devices on its website.
Since the above statements by Yegen at least apply to the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge rollout of Nougat, it looks like Android 7.0 should arrive on the S6 variants before the end of this month, at least in Turkey. This news can only mean that users of those devices don't have too much longer to wait for the sweet taste of Nougat. In any case, we'll be keeping a close eye on when it happens.
In other news, Samsung has already started rolling out the February Android security patches for the S6 and S6 edge.
