The Nvidia Shield TV has long been on the market and has yet to receive a proper hardware update. But over the years, Nvidia has managed to prolong the life of the device and keep things fresh by delivering updates, adding improvements and new features. Now, it appears that a new update could be on the horizon, bringing Google's Android 9.0.
Unfortunately, the update isn't set in stone, with the device just being spotted on the Google Play Console and being listed as “compatible” with Android Pie. The listing is for the 2017 refresh of the Shield TV, with nothing being mentioned for the 2015 variant. It is a good sign that Nvidia is working on the update, but as mentioned before, although the console is listed, it doesn't mean the update will arrive at all or anytime soon.
With that said, there could be a newly updated model of the Shield TV in the works, delivering an updated chipset that will be more power-efficient and offer higher GPU clock speeds. If you are interested in the Shield TV, you can purchase it starting at $179.99.
