O2 becomes the first UK network to offer native Visual Voicemail on Android

O2 has announced that it’s rolling out Visual Voicemail for users of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Next year, the firm is planning to introduce the feature on other devices made by other firms including Samsung and Sony. The announcement means that O2 has become the first carrier in the UK to provide Visual Voicemail to Android devices-

If you’re unfamiliar with Visual Voicemail and not clear on how it works, it simply means that you can view your voicemail messages within the Phone app. You can see who left the message, the time they left it and its duration. You can also play it back and delete it, respond with a voice call or a text message, block it and report it as spam, and forward it on using another app.

Commenting on the announcement, Magnus McDonald, Director of Product and Category Management at O2, said:

“We are constantly looking at how we can improve the customer experience when using any of our services. We were the first to offer Visual Voicemail on the iPhone and then again on Windows phones and it has always been a hugely popular offer. We know that our customers have been hoping to have Visual Voicemail on their Android devices and we’re delighted to be the first network operator to be able to offer this.”

If you’re using any of the supported devices you’ll need to head over to the Google Play Store and ensure that you have the latest version of the Phone app installed. From there, open the app and look for the Voicemail tab along the bottom.

Update: An earlier version of the article stated that O2 is the first carrier to provide Visual Voicemail in the UK. The article has been updated to clarify that this is only true for Android devices.
