Office Lens becomes Microsoft Lens and gets a new icon and features

Microsoft's scanning app, Office Lens, is getting a new name - Microsoft Lens - along with a new Fluent Design icon. In addition to the new look and name of the app, Microsoft Lens is also getting some new capabilities.

First off, Microsoft is adding new intelligent features to the camera UI, such as Image to Text, Image to Table, Image to Contact, Immersive Reader, and QR Code Scan. These features are all pretty self-explanatory just looking at their names, and you can find some of these features are already available in places such as the unified Office mobile app. In fact, Microsoft Lens lives inside a handful of Office apps, so you don't necessarily need to have the Lens app to use some of these capabilities.

Microsoft is also improving the scanning experience, with new capabilities such as re-ordering pages when scanning multi-page documents, re-editing PDF scans, applying filters to every image in the document, and the ability to scan up to 100 pages as either image files or PDF. It's also making it easier to switch between local and cloud locations, as well as distinguish which files are saved to the cloud or locally.

The updates are rolling out to Android users first, and coming to iOS "in the coming months". For Windows users, Office Lens was killed off at the end of 2020.
