Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3 are all receiving a new software update that will expand the number of features users can enjoy. To stop the watches getting too stale, Samsung has also provided a selection of new watch faces that first arrived on the Galaxy Watch4.
One of the big changes in this software update is the ability to change Fall Detection sensitivity. Once the Fall Detection threshold is passed, an SOS notification will be sent to pre-selected contacts. This could come in handy if you have more vulnerable friends of family who are prone to falling and may require some assistance after a fall. Unfortunately, likely due to hardware limitations, this change is only coming to the Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3.
Another item on the list in this software update is an update to Group Challenge. Now you can add your friends and family members to a Challenge to see who can go the furthest or fastest. You can compete against each other individually or you can work as a team to see what you can accomplish together.
If you like to keep track of your health stats which the Galaxy Watch series collects and own the Galaxy Watch Active2 or Galaxy Watch3, you’ll be able to see your data in the Samsung Health Monitor app which has apparently arrived on these two devices. On the Galaxy Watch4, the Health Monitor app has recently expanded to Australia, Azerbaijan, Paraguay and Georgia.
Finally, the update brings 10 new watch faces that initially launched with the Galaxy Watch4. If you’ve grown bored with your current watch face, maybe try one of the new ones to freshen things up a bit. These watch faces are more customisable too allowing you to pick various animals, background colours and text colours.
Update: Changed the article to reflect that the update is bringing the option to change the sensitivity of Fall Detection, rather than introducing the feature itself.
