Despite the OnePlus team stating that the OnePlus 5 would not be getting the 5T's face unlock feature, digging into a leaked build of Android 8.0 Oreo for the handset, reveals that the feature could indeed arrive at some point.
If unfamiliar, Face Unlock is a new feature that debuted on the recently released OnePlus 5T that allows a user to unlock their handset instantly by using their face. While this similar feature has been available on other handsets, the one found on the OnePlus is surprisingly fast. Although it might not be as secure as what's found on Apple's iPhone X, it is still quite impressive and being praised by reviewers and consumers alike.
The folks over at XDA Developers have confirmed that the feature is indeed working on the OnePlus 5 and now all there is to do is wait for the official release of the beta to see whether it will make an appearance. The beta of Android 8.0 Oreo is set to make its way to the handset starting next week, so luckily there isn't much longer to wait.
