Last year, OnePlus debuted a partnership with car maker McLaren, which was embodied in a special edition of the OnePlus 6T. It seems the two companies are working together for one more go with the OnePlus 7T series, according to a new tweet from OnePlus.
OnePlus' strategy in 2019 has been somewhat different from what we've seen in the past, with the addition of a new Pro model for the first time with the OnePlus 7 family. The OnePlus 7T family is looking even more confusing, since the company launched the 7T in the United States, where only the 7 Pro was available before. The OnePlus 7T Pro is expected to be announced at an event on October 10, where we'll also see the McLaren edition of the device.
It's currently unclear what the McLaren-branded model will bring to the table this time around. Last year's 6T McLaren Edition brought a whopping 10GB of RAM and introduced Warp Charge 30 for the first time. However, the OnePlus 7 Pro already offers that charging technology, and can be configured with up to 12GB of RAM, so the company will have to find other ways to make the special edition stand out.
Besides the specs, the phone will likely sport a unique visual identity compared to its siblings. Earlier this week, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau posted what appears to be an image of the device's box (pictured above), featuring a carbon fiber texture and orange highlights, similar to last year's 6T McLaren Edition.
