OnePlus was rumored to be working on its own-branded smartwatch for some time, until CEO Pete Lau finally confirmed that the company was working on it last December. It's slated to launch this year, but we have yet to see much of it, at least until now.
According to a new report by PriceBaba in collaboration with well-known leakster Ishan Agarwal, some of the features and specs of the purported OnePlus Watch have now been revealed. The watch will have a round display, with the casing being 46mm in size, and it will come with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. This is something that OnePlus still doesn't do all the time with its phones, but considering watches are used to track activities like swimming, it makes sense.
One thing that may help the OnePlus Watch stand out is support for Warp Charge, OnePlus' fast charging technology. According to the leak, the OnePlus Watch will be able to deliver a week of battery life with just a 20-minute charge, which would be fairly impressive if true. For markets where the OnePlus TV is available, you'll also be able to use the watch as a remote for the TV.
Missing from the leak is a clear indication of what operating system or chipset will be used in the watch, though Agarwal noted that it doesn't look like OnePlus will be using Google's Wear OS. On the bright side, the watch will include features like sleep tracking, heart rate and stress monitoring, SpO2 measurements, automatic workout detection, and a swimming mode.
The watch will also naturally be able to deliver notifications, including answering calls, and music controls. It also includes 4GB of onboard storage, which could suggest support for features like local music playback, though that remains to be seen.
The OnePlus Watch is said to come in two colors - black and silver. OnePlus has an event scheduled for March 23, where it will officially launch the OnePlus 9 series of phones, and it's expected that the OnePlus Watch will be there as well. Earlier this year, the company launched the OnePlus Band in India.
Update: OnePlus has now confirmed that it will unveil the OnePlus Watch at its March 23 event. While most of the aforementioned specs weren't confirmed, the company is touting "Seamless connectivity between OnePlus smartphones, audio peripherals, smartwear devices, and even OnePlus TVs" as one of the key features of the watch. It also promises a "best-in-class experience" while being affordable.
