Almost eleven months have now passed since Google originally released Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but 85% of Android devices are still running older versions of the OS. Among them is the OnePlus X, which actually launched after Marshmallow began rolling out - but the long wait for the update is finally coming to an end.
OnePlus has announced the release of a preview 'community build' of OxygenOS 3.1.0, which is based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, the newest version of Android - although not for long, given that 7.0 Nougat is expected to arrive very soon.
Here's what's new in the OxygenOS 3.1.0 preview for the OnePlus X:
- Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
- https://www.android.com/versions/marshmallow-6-0/
- Launcher upgrades
- New icon packs
- Google search bar UI customization
- New wallpaper picker
- Shelf UX improvements
- Long press boards to rearrange or remove
- General system performance improvement
- Settings changes
- New (native Android) app permissions
- New Alert Slider settings with more customization options
- New apps
- OnePlus Music Player
- OnePlus Gallery
- August 1 security patches for Android
Given that this is a preview, there are some known issues, including:
- Mobile network stability issues in some regions
- Some 3rd party apps may experience some compatibility issues
- Language localization is still being improved
Those who wish to install the OxygenOS 3.1.0 community build for the OnePlus X can do so by clicking here. However, if you're planning to do so, don't waste too much time - OnePlus says that "this is a limited program, so we may disable this download link once we receive enough feedback." Make sure you read the information on this page before deciding whether or not to proceed with installation.
Marshmallow also made its way to the OnePlus 2 in June, months later than the company promised.
