Ever since rumors and leaks of the OnePlus 8 series devices began emerging, murmurs of a more affordable OnePlus 8 have made the rounds. The device is touted to be the company’s first mid-range smartphone in four years since the company’s devices have seen an upward trend. The phone, expected to be called the OnePlus 8 Lite, did not make an appearance alongside the OnePlus 8 series launch.
Now, an image shared by leakster Max J. on Twitter (spotted by AndroidHeadlines) suggests that the mid-range handset, which may be called the OnePlus Z, will likely see a July 2020 launch. While there were rumors of a OnePlus X successor back in 2018, such a device never saw the light of the day. The naming of the said device is interesting and corroborates recent tweets from Max Weinbach, someone with a strong track record, pointing to the resurgence of the X series under a new name. The expected launch timeline is also in line with what has been reported earlier.
According to previous reports, the affordable mid-range device is expected to sport a 6.4/6.5-inch 90Hz OLED display with a centered punch-hole cutout for the front-facing camera and be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chip. As for the camera specs, it is expected to come with a triple-camera setup, housing a 48MP primary shooter, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. The base variant reportedly costs £400 (GBP), but prices may vary depending on the market it is being sold in.
