OPPO announced its Reno series of smartphones in China towards the beginning of the month, and just last week announced that the phones would be arriving to the European market in the coming months. Previously, the firm didn't have an exact date for its 5G variant of the Reno, but it has now shared that it will be arriving on May 1.
OPPO touts that the Reno 5G will be the "first commercial 5G smartphone available on market in Europe". The device will make its retail debut in Switzerland in partnership with wireless carrier Swisscom, with a price of 999 Swiss Francs or around $980 USD. The 5G model will also roll out to other regions at a later date.
As far as specifications go, the Reno 5G will offer:
- 6.6-inch 1080p AMOLED display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor
- 8GB RAM
- 256GB internal storage
- 48MP / 8MP / 13MP rear camera
- 16MP front-facing camera
- 4,065mAh battery
While the specifications are top-end, what makes the Reno series stand out from its competitors is its use of a pop-up hinge mechanism for its front-facing camera. This allows OPPO to maximize the screen real estate on the phone, making it devoid of display notches or cutouts, giving users a full-screen experience with minimal bezels.
Furthermore, the Reno 5G and Reno 10X Zoom offer a 10x Hybrid Zoom system that will allow users to punch in up to ten times, getting closer to the subject, when taking photos. So, if you're in the region, and want to be one of the first to experience 5G service, the Reno 5G will go on sale on May 1 for 999 Swiss Francs via Swisscom.
