Oracle is trying every trick it can to get out of the spotlight. A key testimony is expected from a Microsoft executive Doug Burgum on Wednesday. According to News.com "Burgum is expected to support the government's argument that Microsoft mainly supplies financial and human resource systems to midsize companies and has no immediate plans to sell those programs to large global corporations."
Meanwhile Oracle is trying to switch the attention over to Microsoft with papers showing Microsoft is indeed a rival, and that this merge between Oracle and PeopleSoft will only help customers. Right now there are three main competitors Oracle, PeopleSoft and SAP. If Oracle does merge with PeopleSoft that leaves only two competitors (Oracle & SAP). This would make it harder than it already is for other database companies to enter the market. This trial is expected to finally wrap up on July 2. Still don't expect Oracle to stop brining up Microsoft in this case. If Oracle can successfully shift the attention to Microsoft and away from itself the merger might just go through. Then again Oracle is fighting the U.S. Justice Department.
