Tales of turn-based gaming's death have been greatly exaggerated. A genre that doesn't require lavish graphics nor show off the latest computer technology, turn-based strategy rarely creates a stir in the electronic entertainment industry. Then again, rarely does Sid Meier have a hand in a game's development.
He did, however, assist in the development of Civilization III. That, coupled with the game's storied lineage, immediately thrust the title into the harsh glare of the media's spotlight. It was a spotlight in which the game reveled. Despite retaining the essence of Civilization games past, Civilization III breathed enough new life into itself to re-addict hard core and casual gamers alike.
