Nippon Ichi Software today confirmed that it will be making its North American debut as a publisher with Phantom Brave for PlayStation 2. The latest strategy-RPG from the makers of Disgaea is slated to arrive this fall.
Phantom Brave continues the evolution of N1's strategy-RPG efforts by offering completely free movement around the battlefield (it's no longer divided into a simple grid of squares) and an unusual means of developing your army. Rather than collecting a party of corporeal units that persists from battle to battle, the young heroine Marona raises her force from each battlefield, using her unique ability to call and command ghosts and spirits.
Character development in Phantom Brave expands on Disgaea 's system with more than 400 different skills and spells that can be assigned to different units. They'll grow and develop over some 20 episodes, which Nippon Ichi claims can occupy more than 100 hours of gameplay.
