Today, the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences announced that Phil Spencer would receive its Lifetime Achievement Award. Spencer took over the Xbox division at Microsoft when it was in turmoil. The Xbox One console focused too heavily on entertainment and didn't offer the performance the less-expensive PlayStation 4 did. There was also this feeling that Xbox didn't have worthy exclusives.
Fast forward to 2022, Phil Spencer is working closely with Microsoft boss Satya Nadella to make the company known for its gaming prowess. He even announced that Microsoft was acquiring Activision Blizzard — the publisher behind Call of Duty and Diablo — for around $70 billion. Last but not least, Xbox has released a number of critically-acclaimed games like Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5.
The ceremony that takes place on February 24, 2022 will highlight Spencer's career at Microsoft and his accomplishments. Bethesda Game Studios game director and executive producer Todd Howard will present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Spencer.
