E3 and gamescom 2021 showcases have come and gone featuring strong Microsoft presences, but now, it's finally Sony's turn to tout its upcoming PlayStation 4 and 5 offerings. Fans looking forward to finding out what's incoming can tune in to the PlayStation Showcase 2021 Broadcast on September 9. After many rumored dates have come and gone, the official announcement happened on the PlayStation Blog today.
The broadcast will kick off at 1pm PT / 9pm BST / 10pm CEST across the Twitch and YouTube PlayStation channels. It will last for 40 minutes and show off PlayStation Studios exclusives as well as third party releases coming to Sony platforms this holiday and beyond. More in-depth looks at the games seen at the show will begin rolling right after the main event.
"You’ve been awfully patient, and we thank you for that," adds Sony Interactive Entertainment content and communications senior director Sid Shuman in the blog. "And now we’re looking forward to showing you what we’ve been working on."
As for what fans can expect to see there, aside from any new reveals that might happen, there a particularly good chance of the next God of War by Sony's Santa Monica Studio making an appearance at the show. A sequel to the 2018 hit, likely named God of War Ragnarok, was teased last year. Horizon Forbidden West is also a title that should get another gameplay demo. The game was recently delayed to 2022.
In the PlayStation Showcase event last year, Final Fantasy XVI and the Harry Potter universe-set RPG Hogwarts Legacy also got reveals. These may get new looks at the event also. Unfortunately, it was confirmed the next-generation VR system for PlayStation 5 won't be there at this year's showcase.
