There's been a lot of talk about how to bring high-paying jobs back to the United States, especially in the manufacturing space. Apple has always been one of the main targets due to the fact that the company makes a lot of profit and outsources all of their manufacturing. There's also been reports that the companies that produce Apple's products work in less-than-ideal environments.
Donald Trump, speaking with the New York Times, stated that he began a high level conversation with Apple's CEO to bring manufacturing of Apple's devices back to the United States.
Tim, you know one of the things that will be a real achievement for me is when I get Apple to build a big plant in the United States, or many big plants in the United States, where instead of going to China, and going to Vietnam, and going to the places that you go to, you’re making your product right here.
In order to entice companies like Apple to go down this path, he supports tax cuts and reduced regulations. However even with major cuts, it will still be more expensive to build products like the iPhone in the United States. It's estimated that labor currently costs are a mere $5 per phone. While it's unknown how much it would cost to make the same device in the United States, it's clear that it will be far higher than $5, even if there was enough skilled labor to perform the tasks.
If production was moved out of Asia, how much more would you be willing to pay for your iPhone? Let us know by answering the poll and commenting below.
