Prices for CD-R discs continue to rise in 4Q

Three major optical storage disc makers in Taiwan – Ritek, CMC Magnetics (CMC) and Prodisc Technology – have all raised their CD-R disc prices starting in October, according to the companies. While CMC and Prodisc said they have raised their CD-R prices by 5% to about US$0.23, CMC also confirmed higher CD-R quotes of between US$0.22 and US$0.23.

In the second quarter, all the companies raised their CD-R disc prices by about 10% from the first quarter. The continuous price hike has been a result of strong demand and suspension of capacity expansion, and the makers have enjoyed high utilization rates, according to the companies.
