Sony's PSX multipurpose DVD recorder and game console won't see release in North America this year, Bloomberg Japan reports today. The news comes from an interview with Sony Electronics COO Hideki Komiyama, who offered little clarification regarding the reasons behind the move.
When the PSX first debuted in Japan early last year, Sony planned to release the device in Japan in December of 2003 and in North America and Europe some time in 2004. Subsequently, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe announced plans for a launch in its territory during the 2004 holidays. Neither Sony Computer Entertainment America nor Sony Electronics' North American division has ever confirmed plans to release the PSX in North America, however. The PSX was conspicuously absent at both the Consumer Electronics Show and E3 this year.
