The Raspberry Pi Foundation celebrated Pi Day earlier this year by announcing the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+; it was mentioned at the time that an upgrade to the Raspberry Pi 1 Model A+ was also being considered, but no timeline was provided. Today, it’s getting that upgrade.
Raspberry Pi 3 Model A+ is a cut-down version of the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+, much like the 1 A+ was to the 1 B+.
It lacks an Ethernet port, has only one USB 2.0 port, and comes with only 512MB of LPDDR2 SDRAM. It does, however, offer all of the other upgrades that come with the 3 B+: a 1.4GHz 64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, 5GHz WiFi, and support for Bluetooth 4.2.
While the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ mostly offered quality-of-life improvements over the 3 B, the 3 A+ is somewhat of a considerable upgrade over the 1A+. It’s also $5 more expensive, costing 25$.

The Raspberry Pi 3 Model A+ is available for purchase starting today. There’s also a new case for the 3 A+, but it won’t be available until the start of December.
The folks over at the Foundation say that the A+ is “about closing things out in style” because whatever comes next will be “less of an evolution” and rather be a larger upgrade. Still, older models will continue to be available for those who need them, so if you need a 1 A+ despite this upgrade, you can still get one, at least for now.
