Within the UK courts today, the largest sentence was handed for games piracy. Cardiff Crown Court sentenced John Lamb to three and a half years of imprisonment for a counterfeiting offence. John Lamb is 45 years of age, currently residing in Llanharan. John pleaded guilty to 30 counts of video recording offences, covering games, films and business software. Lamb's pirated merchandice totalled about a quarter of a million pounds, which was sold over the internet through spam e-mail.
"This is the longest prison sentence ELSPA has ever seen handed down to a games pirate," commented ELSPA director general Roger Bennett, "and it is gratifying to see the courts are now taking piracy seriously and enforcing suitably severe sentences."
