Late last week, OnePlus teased a red variant of the OnePlus 6 but held back from revealing details regarding its availability. Now, the OnePlus 6 Red's release date is official: the new variant will be available globally from July 10 in the US and July 16th in India. While there are plans for a European release, specific dates have not yet been made public.
OnePlus' CEO Pete Lau announced in a forum post that the red edition of the OnePlus 6 will cost $579, which is the same price as the other versions. The Chinese smartphone maker first announced the OnePlus 6 last May in Mirror Black and Midnight Black color options before it introduced the Silk White Limited Edition with a matte finish last month.
For the red edition, Lau says the company "used a new film coating process that’s never been attempted before in the smartphone industry" to achieve what he describes an "amber-like depth and clarity." The OnePlus 6 Red also has a glossy look to it that Lau attributes to the inclusion of an evaporated layer of brightening film in the design process to keep a bright coating. The OnePlus 6 Red will ship exclusively with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage and will otherwise include the same spec sheet as the other color variants.
