A couple of weeks ago, RedMagic introduced the RedMagic 6 series of gaming phones for the Chinese market, and today, it's time for international markets to get an official announcement. The company has announced that the RedMagic 6 and 6 Pro are coming to global markets next month, with pre-orders starting on April 9.
Keeping in line with RedMagic's history, the RedMagic 6 features some cutting-edge technology, starting with the world's first 165Hz smartphone display, complete with a 500Hz single-finger touch response rate and a 360Hz multi-finger response rate. It's still a Full HD+ AMOLED panel, and it's actually a bit bigger than before, at 6.8 inches. It features CPHY-DSI technology, originally designed for AR and VR applications, which helps the panel use up to 50% less power, and it's certified by SGS for eye care, low smear, and refresh rate.
The cooling system also continues to be a highlight of the RedMagic 6, with a new fan rotating at up to 20,000RPM and a new air duct design promising a 500% increase in the air heat transfer coefficient. In addition to that, there's a copper foil and a vapor chamber connected by thermal paste to help with cooling. If you opt for the Pro model, you also get an additional heat dissipation plate on the back that help things run even cooler.
All of that is designed to cool the Snapdragon 888 at the heart of the phone, which is backed up by 12GB of RAM on the RedMagic 6 and 16GB on the RedMagic 6 Pro. The phones also both come with a 5050mAh battery and support for 66W charging, though only a 30W charger comes in the box, which is still an upgrade over the 18W chargers that shipped with previous phones.
Of course, there's more of RedMagic's legacy here. The touch-sensitive shoulder triggers are back, now with a 400Hz touch response rate, and features like the gaming mode button are also here, along with an updated version of Game Space. RedMagic has updated its Android skin to Redmagic OS 4.0, based on Android 11, with multiple improvements to performance and power efficiency thanks to smart CPU and GPU scheduling.
Finally, you'll also find a triple-camera setup on the back, as usual. The main camera is a 64MP sensor, and there's also an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro, similar to last year's models. The front-facing camera is also an 8MP sensor.
The RedMagic 6 series will be available for pre-order on April 9, and pre-ordering gives you a chance to win the company's Cyberpods. Open sales will begin on April 15, and the RedMagic 6 will cost $599/€599/£509 with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, while the RedMagic 6 Pro will cost $699/€699/£599 and pack 16GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The RedMagic 6 will come in Eclipse Black, while the 6 Pro comes in Moon Silver.
Outside of the phones, RedMagic also announced the new Ice Dock with two external fans and RGB lighting; a new gaming adaptor with a display output supporting 165Hz, another charging port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack; and the RedMagic Watch, a smartwatch with 15 days of battery life, 16 sports modes, and heart rate and sleep monitoring. However, prices for these products weren't specified.
