Xiaomi's sub-brand, Redmi, has unveiled a new pair of truly wireless earbuds in China. Called Redmi AirDots 2, are the successor to the Redmi AirDots launched in March last year. The Redmi AirDots 2 are priced at ¥79 (roughly $11) on the company’s crowdfunding platform.
At first glance, the AirDots 2 look almost identical to the Redmi AirDots S launched a few months back. These earbuds are lightweight with each earbud weighing in at just 4.1 grams. Users will get a choice of three plug sizes – small, medium, and large.
The company claims the earbuds will offer four hours of continuous playback. With the charging case, battery life is boosted to 12 hours.
The AirDots 2 feature 7.2mm audio drivers. Redmi claims these drivers offer “powerful low-frequency output as well as soft and delicate high-frequency and mid-frequency sound.” There’s also support for what the company calls ‘Environment Noise Reduction’ technology to minimize the background noise when a user is on a call.
Users in China will be able to tap the earbuds twice to trigger the XiaoAI Voice Assistant. This smart assistant supports various functions such as Find My Phone, WeChat messaging, navigation, and more.
As per a GizmoChina report, once the crowdfunding campaign is complete, the AirDots 2 will be available at ¥99 (roughly $14). There's no word at the moment on when the Redmi AirDots 2 will be available in countries outside China.
