Microsoft launched the Xbox One in the UK with a big event at London's Leicester Square Thursday night.
Microsoft launched the Xbox One on Friday and later that day stated their latest game console had already sold over 1 million units worldwide in its first 24 hours. While the company didn't offer a breakdown of how many Xbox One units were sold in each of its 13 launch markets, a new report claims that in the UK, 150,000 consoles were sold in the first 48 hours.
MCV reports that this weekend sales numbers are double the number of Xbox 360 units that were sold in the same time period for its launch in December 2005. Perhaps even more interesting is that the Xbox One launch numbers are close to beating the lifetime sales of Nintendo's Wii U console. which launched in the UK on November 30th, 2012. Assuming there are enough new Xbox One shipments to go around to retailers, the Xbox One will beat the lifetime Wii U sales number in the UK later this week.
Of course, there is another big console launch coming to the UK and the rest of Europe this Friday. Sony's PlayStation 4 could beat the Xbox One in launch sales in that part of the world. The PS4 has already sold over 1 million units just in the U.S. and Canada.
